Clear Aligners

Low-Profile Orthodontic Treatment Offered at South Lake Family Dentistry

A Simple and Aesthetic Alternative to Braces

Clear aligner therapy is a modern orthodontic treatment that involves using a series of clear, removable trays (aligners) to gradually move and align teeth into their desired positions. It’s an alternative to traditional braces and is particularly popular among individuals seeking a discreet and comfortable way to straighten their teeth. Contact Dr. Carlson and his team at 425-334-9600 to set up a consultation to see if clear aligners would be a great solution for you.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Initial Consultation: Your orthodontist or dentist will assess your teeth and discuss your treatment goals. If clear aligners are suitable for your case, they will create a customized treatment plan.

Impressions or Digital Scans: Impressions of your teeth or digital scans are taken to create a 3D model of your mouth. This digital model is used to design a series of aligners tailored to your specific needs.

Aligner Series: You’ll receive a series of clear aligners, each slightly adjusted to shift your teeth progressively. You’ll wear each set for about 1-2 weeks before moving on to the next set.

Regular Check-Ups: You’ll have periodic check-up appointments with your orthodontist or dentist to monitor your progress and receive new sets of aligners.

Discreet Treatment: One of the advantages of clear aligners is that they are virtually invisible when worn, making them a discreet option for orthodontic treatment.

What to Expect Following the Procedure

Adjustment Period: Initially, you may experience some discomfort or pressure when you switch to a new set of aligners. This is normal and typically subsides within a few days as your teeth adjust.

Oral Hygiene: Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential. Remove aligners for eating and drinking (except for water), and brush and floss your teeth before putting them back in.

Diet: There are no dietary restrictions with clear aligners, as they are removable. However, it’s advisable to minimize consumption of staining foods and beverages while wearing aligners.

Duration: Treatment duration varies but typically lasts several months to a few years, depending on the complexity of your case and the recommended treatment plan.

Retention: After completing your aligner therapy, Dr. Carlson will likely recommend wearing a retainer to maintain your newly aligned teeth.

Clear aligner therapy offers a convenient and aesthetically pleasing way to achieve straighter teeth. Following your dentist’s instructions and wearing the aligners as directed will help ensure a successful outcome.

How Do Clear Aligners Work?

Using gradual force, clear aligners gently move teeth into alignment without the use of metal wires or brackets. Clear aligners are made with very strong plastic material that is fabricated specifically to fit the patient’s teeth. As treatment progresses, the patient switches through a series of aligners, each one bringing the teeth closer to their correct alignment. It is recommended that the patient wear the aligners for twenty hours each day. New aligners are switched out approximately every two weeks.

What Are the Advantages of Clear Aligners With South Lake Family Dentistry?

For our patients who want a straighter smile but do not want to wear metal bracket braces or for patients who have had braces but want to make minor corrections to their smile, clear aligners are a fantastic option. They’re extremely simple to keep clean, which makes it easier to maintain healthy gums and teeth. They are less likely to irritate gums and cheeks. They prevent wear and tear on your teeth from tooth grinding. They are also removable, which allows the patient to brush and floss after each meal with ease.
